Crop Ontology & Trait ID: The crop ontology data comes from the crop ontology database (http://www.cropontology.org/).
Seven classes of traits were defined: Abiotic, Agronomic, Biotic, Fertility, Morphological, Phenological, and Quality. Please see the table below (Dempewolf et al. in prep).
Class Definition Abiotic Stress Traits valuable for growing crops in challenging environmental conditions i.e. drought, heat, salty soil, or flooding. Agronomic Trait Traits
related to crop breeding or production i.e. seed size, yield, lodging Biotic Stress Traits related to tolerating disease, pests, or other biological stresses.
Fertility Trait Traits related to fertility in breeding i.e. cytoplasmic male sterility Morphological Trait Traits related to plant or fruit architecture i.e.
dwarfing or reduced branching Phenological Trait Traits related to plant development i.e. flowering time and days to maturity Quality Trait Traits relating to the
makeup of the final crop product i.e. protein content or nutritional content.
"Confirmed" - the trait has been introgressed from the CWR to the Crop. "Potential" - traits observed in the CWR but not yet introgressed into the crop. If reported
"as been used as a source of that trait in the past" - it is also considered as "confirmed".
